Present Simple

使い方

現在形 Present Simple は、一般的なことや日常の状態を伝える時に使う。

• I am a teacher.
• You speak Japanese quite well.
• He comes from japan.

現在進行形との使い分け

現在の動作であっても、一定期間で終わる場合は、現在進行形を使う。

think を例にすると、普段から思っている believe のか、今考えている consider のかで使い分ける。

• I think she is Japanese.
• I am thinking of quitting my job.

特に go / come / stay などで、手配した行動を伝える場合に間違いやすい。この場合は、現在進行形を使う。

• I am staying at a hotel this evening.
• I __stay__ at a hotel this evening.
• I am going out tonight.
• I __go__ out tonight.
• He isn’t coming to the party tommorow.
• He __doesn't come__ to the party tommorow.

ただし、スケジュールは常に決まっている事なので現在形を使う。

• The train arrives at the station at 9:00 tommorow.
• What time does the movie end?

頻度を伝える場合

現在形は always / often / usually / sometimes / never の頻度を表す副詞と一緒に使うことができる。

• I always drive to work.
• I’m often late for work.
• I usually get up at 8:00.
• I sometimes play tennis, but very often.
• I never eat breakfast.

これらの副詞は現在進行形と共に用いられることはないが、「いつも … してしまう」のように現在の行動を伝える場合は、 be always … ing という表現で現在進行形を使える。

• I’ve lost my key. I’m always losing things.
• You’re always watching TV.
